This one is dedicated to my Dad. This album came out the year I was born. Dad loved Otis Redding, and he used to play this album over and over again during my childhood. It stuck in my brain, it is part of my soul. Especially this song “Tramp”, with the edgy soulful sounds of Carla Thomas. This song is clearly the definiton of SOUL.
I played this tune last week on my show Flavas of Funk on iLive Radio.
Check me out next week, Thursday January 21st, as I take you through a journey of FUNKY MUSIC
1987 is when this song “Monkey” was released from George Michael’s Grammy award winning album “Faith”. What a GREAT ALBUM! One of the best of its time…I think. That Voice, The Hair, The Jeans….and don’t me tellin’ me nuthin’, this British brotha CAN MOVE. This song and video still leaves me with goosebumps
What an exciting time for music
Can you believe I just discovered this song last week??!….Forgive me funky people
“Taurus, Aries and Leo” is the name of this tune. Now isn’t this such a great damn groove? Did you really expect anything else from the J.B.’s?
If you’re lovin’ this jam, you NEED to tune in to my show FLAVAS of FUNK on iLiveRadio, every 2nd Thursday from 6-8pm. Its a Get Down type of thang!
1973 is when this tune went down!
Herbie Hancock killed it with Watermelon Man. I love the layering and progression of the tune. I attempt to hum all layers at the same time and when I succeed I feel proud. This is a vibrational orgasm right here…
Y’all remember this 1977 tune “Slide”?
Slave’s bass licks are cwaazy, and their funky beats are on point…a definite booty shake tune
This song brings me back to my childhood. I believe my parents bought this 45 record and we played it over and over and over again…

Amy Winehouse is one of those singers with a natural talent. It’s in her. It’s part of her. She’s a 21st century version of the 60’s. A true beauty and Talent, missed, but never forgotten. “Tears Dry on their Own” is a CLASSIK!
